Finding Parallels Between Thermostats and Life

Types of Home Thermostats: Figuring Out What You Need

Try typing in the search phrase, “thermostat reviews” in the search engine box and you’ll be given about nine million pages to go to. The device is one of the most popular and must-have components at home. But because you’re reading this post, it means you probably want more information as to what really is this device capable of.

The thermostat is generally defined as a gadget or device that is installed at home in order to make sure that the HVAC system is working properly, optimally, and efficiently. For the most part, it becomes the switch for the heating equipment and the air conditioning system. But it’s original and most important operating is to set and dictate the kind of temperature the living space must have. Hence, its function has led to the fact that it has become an indispensable component for energy conservation.

Thermostats may be classified into two type based on operation. These are the line voltage type and the low voltage type.

The line voltage thermostat is mostly used in single heating systems such as that of baseboards and radiator systems. The mechanism of use is as simple as the current flowing through the thermostat and forward to the heater.

Meanwhile, the low voltage type of thermostat is more efficient and sophisticated in function, especially when the talk is about controlling the current of air. This is the variety being used in centralized HVAC systems. Quite interestingly, this variety is also used in controlling water heating systems and electric unitary systems.

Wall Control Device Types

When you’re done determining which variant best suits your HVAC system at home, the next thing you need to do is learn the different types of wall device.

No doubt the most popular type of wall device for thermostats is the programmable variety. The most obvious advantage of this type is that there is an automatic temperature adjustment based on pre-set times. Unlike any other types, this one allows the homeowner to conserve energy while at the same time ensure that the living space is comfortable all the way and all the time.

But for those who don’t intend to pay extra for a programmable thermostat, the next best thing is the mechanical model. Its biggest advantage meanwhile is its price. Likewise, it is very easy to install that you may not even need a technician. This device comes equipped with either vapor-filled bellows or bi-metallic strips that respond to changes in temperature inside. However, don’t expect a lot of fanciness from it since it can’t respond as fast compared to that of a programmable thermostat in terms of temperature adjustment.
